The last... 2.5 km of the road is unsealed, and quite potholed. You don't need a 4WD but it will get a bit bumpy in places. With easy parking, picnic spots and barbecue facilities, it’s a fantastic day trip. There is also a great hiking track to the base of the waterfall where you can take a dip - allow for 3-4 hours if you are doing the base walk, there are stairs and boardwalk in sections as well as large boulders to navigate, so a moderate level of fitness and mobility is required for the base walk.

Park (on the western side), it’s also a site rich in history. The walk to the falls itself is only 1.4km return, mostly on a timber boardwalk.
How to get there: Take the Pacific Highway (north from Ballina, south from Byron Bay) and when you hit Newrybar turn on to Brooklet road. After about 2km turn left off to Friday Hut Road and then turn... left again onto Killen Falls Road. Killen Falls is located just outside the quaint town of Newrybar. A spectacular waterfall dropping into a large, cool waterhole within a rainforest gully. An easy climb down the embankment.
