The SS Wollongbar ran ashore in storms in 1921, after being mostly stripped for her parts the frame remains and has become a beautiful marine ecosystem, where you can snorkel and see turtles or in the right conditions catch a wave. There are also, numerous banks dotted all along Belongil Beach where you can often catch some surf. Belongil, is also the best place in town to watch the sunset in spectacular colours. With the sound of the local drumming circle in the background, it’s a pretty magical way to celebrate the end of a beautiful Byron Bay day.
